Media Converter Frequently Asked Questions. (Part2)
Here are some common questions and answers regarding media converters.

==========================================================

Q. My OPT LED is blinking green. Is this normal?

A. Yes, this indicates that data is being transmitted, so there is no issue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What is "Flooding Mode"?

A.

OFF: The device learns MAC addresses.

ON: The device does not learn MAC addresses.

There isn't a significant difference in general operation. However, this mode is used when you want to enable communication between locations regardless of the destination address, such as for conducting test frame pass-through or network monitoring.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cables be used with the LEX1852 series?

A. Yes, they can be used with the Ethernet ports.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Do the LEX1851-1F and LEX1852 series have speed/duplex settings for the optical port? A. No, they do not. The optical side operates at 1000M full-duplex with auto-negotiation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Is configuration required for the LEX1852-10 when using either SMF (Single-Mode Fiber) or MMF (Multi-Mode Fiber)?

A. No, it is not required. It can connect up to 550m for MMF connections and up to 15km for SMF connections.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. My LEX1881-2F units are connected via LEX1705A/B, but they are not linking up.

A. The LEX1881-2F is a repeater product with 3R (Re-amplifying, Reshaping, Retiming) functionality, so it will not link up on its own. It is designed to link up only when connected to devices with a 10G signal source at both ends.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will the LEX1881-1F link up at 1G?

A. No, neither the UTP nor the SFP port will link at 1G.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. When connecting to a switch, do I need a UTP cable of Cat6 or higher for it to link up? A. According to the 10GBASE-T standard, UTP cables must be Cat.6A or higher.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Does it support multi-gigabit speeds?

A. No, it does not.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Does it support traffic policing (bandwidth control)?

A. No, it does not.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Is it possible to connect two LEX1881-2F units using SFP+10G-CU1M?

A. No, it is not supported.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Does the LEX1821-2F support 1000BASE-T SFPs?

A. No, it does not support them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Is it necessary to reconfigure the MC or line card when replacing the chassis?

A. No, it is not necessary. Both the LEX1930-00 and the MC retain their settings even after the chassis power is turned off, and they will operate with the previous settings after replacement.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Is there a setting to disable the "--More--" prompt when displaying information with CLI commands?

A. There is no function to disable the "More" display (e.g., a "Terminal Length 0" setting).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Does it support leap seconds?

A. NTP supports leap seconds. If the time is set manually (fixed), it does not support leap seconds.
