About Cable Television Corporation

Established in 1987 in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, a region historically prosperous as a post town since the Edo period and known as the "Merchant Capital of Northern Kanto," CableTV Co, Ltd operates as a local media provider.

They deliver digital broadcasting services, including community channels, and internet connection services from five centers located primarily in Tochigi City, as well as Tatebayashi City in Gunma Prefecture, and Yuki City, Chikusei City, and Shimotsuke City in Ibaraki Prefecture.

CableTV Co, Ltd is committed to a "community-focused" approach in all its endeavors. Their community broadcasting program, "U・RA・RA," features reporters who visit and experience local shops, businesses, interesting spots, and the activities of local residents, sharing these stories with the community. Furthermore, in their role as a provider of essential communication services, they have established a robust support system to ensure prompt responses to customer inquiries. Through these efforts, they continue to connect with the community, delivering inspiration, smiles, and energy.

Background and Key Factors in the Implementation

We spoke with Mr. Kato of the Communication Systems Department in the Technical Division of CableTV Co, Ltd about the background to this implementation.

CableTV Co, Ltd had been connecting their Tochigi, Gunma, and Ibaraki locations, and while they had increased their bandwidth from 1G to 10G three years prior, they were now considering a 40G configuration to further enhance bandwidth due to the addition of new lines. With an eye on future bandwidth increases, a critical priority was establishing a network that would not disrupt service for approximately 80,000 households, while also enabling the multiplexing of their existing fiber optic cables using WDM technology.

In the process of their evaluation, Mr. Kato gathered information from other cable television companies. Reflecting on that time, he stated, "In the course of exchanging information with cable television companies nationwide, FXC products were frequently mentioned. Among this information, we heard many reports of stable operation without issues with FXC products." Based on this information, they compared products, and when we asked about the key factors in their selection of FXC products, he cited the following:

  • Responsive Sales Support: FXC provided prompt product proposals and demonstrated flexibility in pricing and delivery schedule adjustments.

  • Product Usability: The management screen offers high visibility, making it easy for even those with limited networking experience to configure settings. The aggregation chassis allows for easy installation, and media converters can be removed smoothly. The SFP modules do not need to be physically removed to check their model numbers, saving time and effort.

Mr. Kato particularly emphasized his positive impression of the ease with which media converters could be removed from the aggregation chassis.

"In the past, when removing media converters with all of them installed in the chassis, they would often get caught, making removal difficult. With fiber optic cables nearby, there was always the concern that a disconnection would interrupt service. However, since implementing the FXC chassis, removing the installed media converters has become much easier, and there's no longer any worry about accidentally disconnecting the fiber optic cables. I was truly impressed," shared Mr. Kato, providing valuable feedback from the perspective of an installer.

Following the selection, they conducted preliminary operational testing to confirm product performance.

Reflecting on the testing phase, he noted, "Initially, as it was our first time using these products, we were sometimes confused by differences such as the way the LEDs lit up compared to the products we had been using. However, FXC had a system in place to respond quickly to our inquiries, so we were able to complete the installation without any issues."

In addition, when installing several types of SFP modules, they appreciated that, unlike in the past, where they had to remove SFP modules from the aggregation chassis to check their model numbers, FXC's SFP modules allow them to confirm the model numbers on the management screen without removal, which they found to be a significant time-saver.

Future Outlook

Regarding the current situation at the time of the interview, Kato commented that since the system was introduced in September 2020, "it has continued to operate stably without any problems."

To maintain the stable connection of services used by approximately 80,000 households centered in Tochigi, they expressed their expectations for FXC to continue providing a stable supply of products and reliable support in case of any problems. They also proposed a future collaboration to explore the possibility of transmitting television and video signals over fiber optic cables.

FXC is committed to continuing to contribute to the further enhancement of Cable Television Corporation's services through the provision of our products.
